Templates โ
Templates are the core building block of VariantIQ. A template is a reusable set of custom fields โ you build it once and link it to as many products as you need.
What is a Template? โ
Think of a template as a blueprint for a product option form. For example:
- A "T-Shirt Customization" template might contain fields for "Custom Name", "Jersey Number", and "Logo Upload".
- A "Gift Wrapping" template might contain a "Gift Message" text field and a "Ribbon Color" dropdown.
Once you create a template and add fields to it, you link it to products. Every linked product automatically shows the same fields on its storefront page.
Creating a Template โ
- Open the VariantIQ Manager and click the Templates tab.
- Enter a name in the Template Name field (e.g.
T-Shirts) and click Create. - You're taken to the Template Editor.
Free plan limit
The Free plan supports 1 template. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited templates.
The Template Editor โ
The Template Editor has two tabs:
Fields Tab โ
Add and manage the custom fields that customers will see on the product page. See Fields for a full breakdown of field types and configuration options.
- Click + Add Field to add a new field.
- Drag the โก handle to reorder fields.
- Click a field row to expand its settings.
- Click Save Template to persist your changes.
Rules Tab โ
Build conditional logic that controls field visibility and behavior based on customer selections. See Conditional Rules for the full guide.
Linking Products โ
After creating and configuring a template, click the Products tab in the template editor.
- Click Add Products to open a product picker.
- Search for products by name and select as many as you need.
- Click Add to save the links.
To remove a product from a template, click the Remove button next to it in the product list.
One template per product
Each product can only be linked to one VariantIQ template at a time. Linking a product to a new template automatically removes the link from its previous template.
Duplicating a Template โ
On the Templates list, click Duplicate next to any template to create an identical copy โ including all fields and conditional rules. Field references within rules are automatically remapped to the new copies.
This is useful for creating variants of a template (e.g. a "T-Shirts (Kids)" version of your main t-shirt template) without rebuilding from scratch.
Deleting a Template โ
Click Delete on the Templates list. You'll be prompted to confirm.
Deleting a template removes all associated fields, rules, and product links. It does not delete the products themselves or any past orders โ only the VariantIQ configuration is removed.
