Font Manager โ
The Font Manager lets you upload embroidery fonts so customers can use the Text Composer โ a tool that lets them preview and order custom text embroidery (names, numbers, monograms, slogans) using your actual embroidery font files.
What Are Embroidery Fonts? โ
Unlike standard digital fonts (TTF, OTF), embroidery fonts are sets of pre-digitized stitch files โ one file per character. When a customer types a word, the Text Composer stitches together the individual character files in sequence to produce the full text design.
StitchIQ supports the .bx font format โ the most widely used embroidery font standard, compatible with most commercial embroidery font libraries.
Uploading a Font โ
- In the StitchIQ admin, click Fonts in the left sidebar.
- Click Upload Font.
- Select your
.bxfont file. - Give the font a display name (e.g. "Block Serif", "Script Classic").
- Click Save.
StitchIQ will parse the font file, detect the included characters, and make the font available in the Text Composer on your storefront.
Character detection
StitchIQ automatically detects which characters are included in the font file. Characters that aren't in the font are disabled in the Text Composer so customers can't enter text that can't be rendered.
Managing Fonts โ
From the Fonts list you can:
- Edit the display name shown to customers
- View included characters โ see exactly which letters, numbers, and symbols are available
- Delete a font โ this removes it from the Text Composer immediately
Plan Limits โ
| Plan | Font Limit |
|---|---|
| Starter | 2 |
| Pro | 10 |
| Business | Unlimited |
See Billing & Plans if you need to upload more fonts.
The Text Composer (Customer Experience) โ
Once fonts are uploaded, a Text Composer tab appears on your storefront. Customers can:
- Type their desired text (name, number, phrase, etc.)
- Select a font from your available library
- Preview the text rendered with real thread stitches
- Select thread colors for each character layer
- Get an instant stitch count and price estimate
- Add to cart
The preview is generated in real time as the customer types, combining the individual character stitch files into a single composed design.
Pricing Text Orders โ
Text orders are priced using the same pricing rules as design orders:
- Per-stitch โ Stitch count is calculated by summing all character stitch counts, then applying your rate + setup fee
- Flat rate โ All text orders use the same flat price
See Pricing Setup for configuration.
Supported Character Sets โ
StitchIQ supports standard Latin character sets found in most commercial embroidery fonts:
- Uppercase letters: AโZ
- Lowercase letters: aโz
- Digits: 0โ9
- Common punctuation and symbols (varies by font)
Characters not included in the uploaded font are simply disabled in the composer โ customers won't be able to type them.
Sourcing Embroidery Fonts โ
.bx embroidery fonts are widely available from:
- Embrilliance font libraries
- StockEmbroidery.com
- Urban Threads
- Individual digitizers on Etsy or Creative Market
Font licensing
Ensure you have a commercial license for any font you upload. Most embroidery font licenses allow use on items you sell but restrict redistribution of the font files themselves.
